Softball Myth Busted Windmill Motion Causes Overuse Injuries, Reports Leading Softball Coach

A top softball coach reports that, contrary to well-liked belief, underhand pitching can cause injuries as significantly as overhand pitching does.

Leading softball peak performance coach Marc Dagenais bases his report on the study performed by Rojas IL, Provencher MT, Bhatia S, Foucher KC, Bach BR, Romeo AA, Wimmer MA, and Verma NN, which was published at the American journal of sports medicine.

It was conducted utilizing seven female softball pitchers as test subjects. Throughout the tests, it was located that the force exerted by the biceps throughout a windmill throw was larger than standard overhand pitches.

The study located that the windmill motion performed by elite softball players causes high amounts of pressure around the biceps, which, "may help clarify the higher incidence of anterior shoulder pain clinically observed in elite windmill pitchers."

"In truth, I've observed numerous young pitchers just disappear after suffering from various overuse injuries," says Dagenais. Because of this, he says players must do the following to prevent softball-related injuries: enhancing their mechanics, balancing work and rest to prevent overuse, and strengthening the muscle tissues, tendons, and ligaments.

Dagenais also says that even though the windmill motion is far more all-natural than the overhand throwing motion completed by baseball softball players, "there's not that considerably more benefit -- overuse injuries could nevertheless happen."

Dagenais is really a softball coach with a lot more than 20 years of coaching teams that consist of the Canadian Womens Softball National Group.
